What’s The Book of Catches About?

It’s April 25, 1992. As America awaits the verdict in the trial of the officers who beat Rodney King, Percy Warren Foster, 60s flower child gone to seed, is slowly dying of prostate cancer. He leaves an Indiana mental hospital in quest of a Stuve—a green-gold tree frog with powerful psychedelic properties he believes can also cure his cancer without chemotherapy. He returns his sleepy hometown of Nunny Catch, Indiana, and begins searching for Stuve clues, assisted by his niece and nephew, Sonny and Nora Sikes.

Percy’s quest sets off a chain reaction that over the four days catches in its wake a wild cast of characters, including: a vengeful politician turned media mogul, an oboe-playing TV reporter, a wily ex-drug dealer on the lam, a bored and lovelorn grad student, a cop with an unfortunate haircut, a repressed archivist, a lecherous motel owner, a pair of bowling-obsessed hitmen, a few garage rock bands, and Dave, the most famous fisherman in the world.
